WEDDING AGENDA

  • 12:15 – Guest start arriving at Royal Roads (Hatley Park Castle)
  • 12:30 – Ceremony Start
  • 1:00 – Receiving Line and Guest welcome to explore the Gardens
  • 1:30 – Bus starts to take guest to reception (BBQ at house)
  • 2:30 – Wedding Party Arrives at reception (BBQ at house)
  • 7:15 – Buses last run to Royal Roads
  • 9:00 (ish) – Mr. & Mrs. Whittingham leave

There will be lots of food and drinks at the house.  Please do not worry about bringing anything.  We will be serving BBQ favorites, salads and snacks.  I promise no one will go hungry.  Beer, wine, pop, and water will be very accessible in coolers, to keep you hydrated!

WHAT TO WEAR

Casual and comfortable.  I suggest, sundresses for the girls and dress shorts for the guys, but whatever you want.   There is no dress code.  Of course you can see what the weather is like, but we have ordered hot sunny weather and we want everyone to be comfortable.  *** Shoes, you will be on grass for the ceremony and lots of stairs at the reception. ***

PARKING

We have arranged for parking at Royal Roads, this will be clearly marked and a parking pass will be issued when you reach the parking lot.  There is very limited parking on Fulton and we ask that you respect the neighbors lawns and leave your vehicle at the provided parking.  We have arranged for a bus to be taking guest from Royal Roads to the house.  The bus will be available from 2 PM – 7 PM.  This is a five-minute drive each way.  If you have children that require a car seat, you can drop them off with an adult at the house and return to Royal Roads to get on the bus.  The bus will be available for trips back and forth until the last run at 7:15.

PETS

Pets are normally always welcome at our home, but today I am sorry to say that I ask you leave them at home.  I know it will be too hot to leave them in the car and there will be too many people to have them running around under foot.

KIDS

Always welcome, the more the better, we have arranged for entertainment to keep them busy and having fun, as we expect lots to be attending.  We have a few helpers around that love kids and will be helping watch them, saying that they are not babysitters.  Parents are responsible for their own kids and can use their judgment as to how close they are watched.   You are more than welcome to bring a sitter for your kids; they can join the festivities while watching your kids.  If you are from out of town and would like me to look into finding someone to watching your kids during the reception, please let me know.

ACCOMMADATIONS – Options and Ideas

For your stay in Victoria we have reserved some rooms at the Travellers Inn by Mayfair Mall.  This hotel has an outdoor pool with a waterslide.  The web site is listed below and the rate for the night is $119.95 if reserved 30 days prior to staying there.  The hotel is located in town but with simple driving directions to Royal Roads or to our house.  We have not seen these rooms, but the rating on the hotel is 3 stars.  From the research that I have done, this seems to be a decent price for this rank of hotel.   http://www.travellersinn.com/location.htm

If staying near the house is important to you there are some a couple of Bed and Breakfasts or Bear Mountain Resort located in the area.  A car is needed for any of these locations.   Bear Mountain is our newest golf community.  If golf is your thing, they do offer golf and stay specials.  This might be the best way to reserve your room.  We have checked these rooms out and they are very nice, but pricey.   http://www.bearmountain.ca/resort/accommodations.html

Another hotel that looks nice and is fairly central is the Sandman Hotel in Victoria.  Is has a descent restaurant and was build within the last 10 years.  I would suggest a car for this hotel, as it is 10 or so blocks from downtown.  On Expedia the rate was $160 per night for the high season, I would suggest calling Sandman direct for rates, 1-800-SANDMAN.

The Wedding and Ceremony will take place in Colwood.  This is around 25 minutes from down town Victoria.  Colwood is not my recommendation for accommodations if you want to explore Victoria.   It is far enough out that you could spend a lot of time in the car.   Colwood is also known for its “Colwood Crawl”, this happens heavily twice a day AM going into town and PM going out of town.  It isn’t as bad as the big cities, but it can become a waste of valuable holiday time.  Right down town we have some beautiful hotels, but you will be paying top dollar for the high season.  This may be okay for those that don’t want a car and want to do mostly downtown exploring.

Darcie’s suggestion is to do some research on www.expedia.ca, before booking, please feel free to phone us or email and request a “drive by”.  With a large group it might make sense to look into renting a house.

CAMPING

15 minutes from our house is a beautiful government run campground, Goldstream.  Its nightly rate is around $25; it does have hot showers and flushing toilets.  They do offer limited reservations.

GIFTS

We are registered at the Bay, but please we really do not need gifts.  For us the best gift is having you spend this special day with us.
